A Sudanese man was yesterday given a six-month jail term suspended for two years after he admitted to slightly injuring two police officers at the open centre in Ħal Far.

Lawal Ogbesoh Audu, 38, currently residing in Buġibba, pleaded guilty to threatening, resisting, assaulting and slightly injuring Police Sergeants Sergio Schiavone and Saviour Chircop on Wednesday afternoon.

The court heard Mr Audu apologise for his actions and declare that he did not mean to harm anyone in the incident. After taking into consideration the fact that Mr Audu had not yet committed any other criminal offences while in Malta, Magistrate Michael Mallia opted for a suspended sentence.

Police Inspector Priscilla Caruana prosecuted.

Lawyer Martin Fenech appeared as legal aid to Mr Audu.
