Stephen Mackay, 34 of Valletta, admitted in court today to having last Sunday assaulted a Transport Malta official and threatened him.

The court was told that the official, Joseph Caruana had asked Mr Mackay not to park at City Gate because of works on the Renzo Piano Project and the new bus terminus.

Mr Mackay argued with Mr Caruana and they came to blows. Mr Caruana lost his spectacles and watch in the scuffle.

Magistrate Anthony Vella jailed him for a year suspended for three years and ordered him to pay Mr Caruana €250 in damages within six months.

A protection order for the victim was issued against a guarantee of €1,000.

Man assaults his girlfriend after break-up

In a separate case, Balay Mengiti Menghistab, an Eritrean man who lives in Gzira, admitted today to harassing his Croatian girlfriend and slightly injuring her during an argument on Sunday.

The argument developed after she ended the relationship.

He was condemned to a four-month jail term suspended for three years. His girlfriend was placed under a protection order for three years.
