A Qormi supporter yesterday snatched the microphone from Labour leader Alfred Sant's hand and sung happy birthday to him.

Dr Sant, who turns 60 today, had just finished a short address during a "coach of change" tour that also stopped in Siġġiewi and Luqa.

During the whistle stops, Dr Sant accused the Nationalist government of corruption and Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi of being a liar. Dr Gonzi had lied to hunters and trappers, he lied when he said there was no VAT on education and when he said he would not close Junior Lyceums, among other instances.

Referring to a document on health services, a copy of which he made available to the media in the morning, Dr Sant said the Prime Minister had also lied when he said he would retain health services free of charge.

As one can see from the document, the Cabinet had already discussed the introduction of payment for health services and the only reason why the plan was not implemented was the political consequences it could lead to, he said.

He criticised Public Broadcasting Services, the state broadcaster for not briefing a journalist to cover Labour's morning press conference saying this was done to avoid broadcasting anything that was said against the government.
