A support structure will be installed around an eroded pillar on Racecourse Road, Rabat.

The pillar, donned with a red danger-warning sign, forms part of two pairs of posts acting as markers for Mnarja races held every year on the traditional feast of saints Peter and Paul on June 29.

Rabat mayor Sandro Craus said the Resources Ministry would be putting in a structure to shore up the pillar. This was expected to take place last week but has not happened yet. Mr Craus said restoration work did not fall within the council’s responsibilities and the police had been informed about the issue.

A Resources Ministry spokesman said studies were being carried out to determine the best way to preserve the pillars.
