Sunta and I started our secondary education together back in 1962, attended Sixth Form at the Lyceum in Ħamrun and became teachers together after following a course at Mater Admirabilis College.

Since then, our friendship kept growing even though Sunta went to live in Canada in 1973. We spoke over the phone or by e-mail – we were always in touch. It was as if we saw each other every day.

She was always honest, generous, lively, kind and had so many talents, especially playing the piano, that made her special to all who knew her.

She always spoke about her family: Charlie, her husband, and her daughters Karen and Tracy. Her family was her greatest treasure, though she cared about her friends and their families too.

Sunta worked as a music teacher from her home in Canada and continued to do so until last February, when she told me she had handed over to another teacher.

To ensure the students’ programme would not get disrupted, she made arrangements for the teacher to continue the lessons in her house, to ensure her presence.

She bore her illness with great faith and strength. Speaking to her just a few days before she passed away, she was a tower of faith and was so prepared to meet the Lord, yet she was not sad.

Sunta will be dearly missed by all her family in Canada and in Malta and by all her friends. I am sure she is in a better place and she will continue to live in the hearts of all those who knew her.

To Charlie, Karen and Cliff, Tracy and Brian: I am sure Sunta will continue to be with you in her special way which you only know, so do try to be strong for her, the way she always was. Thanks also to the Lord for giving us such a dear special and unique friend.
