A group of 45 children aged between eight and 11 recently had the opportunity to participate in training sessions in various sports disciplines as part of Summer Sports Fest 2010.

Eight sessions were held for five different sports, namely handball, swimming, baseball, football and touch rugby.

The main objectives of Summer Sports Fest 2010 were to promote sports and physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle, offering equal opportunities to sport programmes regardless of gender or ability, aiding team-building through physical activity outside of competitive sport and attaining these scopes by promoting different sports disciplines.

All participants had the opportunity to learn the basic rules of each sport as well as handling different sports equipment. All sessions were carried out by qualified coaches in their respective sport discipline.

Summer Sports Fest 2010 was organised by Mġarr council through the Mġarr Youth Committee, assissted by Mġarr Youth Nursery. It was co-financed by Mġarr council and the Parliamentary Secretariat for Public Dialogue and Information under the Sports Initiative Scheme.
