The Health Division this morning reminded the public on the importance of keeping well hydrated as the maximum temperatures continue to soar in the coming days.

In a statement this morning, it said high temperatures caused water to be lost from the body at quick rates resulting in dehydration. It could also lead to heat exhaustion or heatstroke.

Although the heat could affect everyone, some ran a greater risk of serious harm including older people, babies and young children, people with chronic conditions and physically active people.

To avoid the effects of the heat wave it was important to:

  • Keep out of the heat especially between 11am till 4pm.
  • Stay in the coolest areas of the house or office.
  • Drink regularly and eat more cold food.
  • Seek advice.
