Up-and-coming basketball player Nigel Sultana is currently having a trial with Italian top-division club Vanoli Braga.
Sultana, named best U-20 player in Malta for the past two seasons, travelled to Italy with the aim of earning a contract with a professional club there.
The coaches of Vanoli Braga, a club based in Cremona who have former NBA player Marko Milic in their ranks, invited Sultana to join their team for training after monitoring his performance during a game in Italy. Tomo Mahoric is the head coach of Vanoli Braga.
Sultana initially linked up with Montichiari for a trial but since the Italian Serie C club is not professional, he was recommended to two Serie A clubs.
The 18-year-old, who turned out for Loyola last season, also had the opportunity to train with Serie A2 team Brescia who have offered Sultana a contract after he left a very positive impression during his trial.
Despite his tender age, Sultana was part of Malta’s senior squad that won a bronze medal in a European Championship Division C tournament last season. He was also a key member of the Malta U-19 team that won a gold medal in another FIBA competition.
