Football-loving Gozitans have good reason to look forward to the future in the light of the Gozo U-14's recent exploits at home and abroad. The team carried off the national U-14 Group C championship without conceding a single defeat and reached the semi-finals of the KO competition.

Led by coach Alex Spiteri, assisted by Saviour Bajada, the team showed discipline and commitment as well as talent on the field of play. By the end of the season, the Gozitans had scored an impressive tally of 68 goals and conceded only five.

During 2007/08, the Gozitan youths also figured in the Lloret Cup, an U-15 tournament over three days in Costa Brava.

Apart from Spain, other teams came from England, France, the US, Finland, Scotland, Switzerland and Italy.

Gozo beat Blanca Subur 2-1, drew 1-1 against Crosskeys FC and beat ASD Savorelli 2-0 to qualify from their group. In the quarter-finals, Gozo eliminated Spain's Vilanova 3-1 but then lost 0-4 to Swiss side FC Dubendorf in the semi-finals.

Organised by Gozo Youth Football official Bajada, this foray in Spain will certainly have given the Gozitan team the experience they need to further develop their skills.
