Malta increased its exports to the US by €27 million during the first half of this year when compared to 2009.

New Eurostat figures issued today in Brussels show that between January and June of this year, the value of Maltese exports to the US reached €90 million. During the same period last year the amount of Maltese exports to the biggest economy of the world amounted to €63 million.

An improvement was also registered on the imports side although in this case Malta still enjoys a healthy trade balance.

During the first half of this year, Malta imported a total of €43 million from the US, up by €5 million over the same period of 2009.

A summit between the EU and the US will take place next Saturday in Lisbon. US President Barak Obama is expected to attend.

Maltese exports to the US consist mostly of electronics.
