The Housing Authority has extended a scheme whereby tenants of government housing in Cospicua can purchase their house at a subsidized rate.

The scheme has been extended to August 2.

The Authority said tenants are eligible for the scheme if they have rented out the same premises for seven years or more. The scheme is available for both Maltese and EU citizens. The foreign tenants have to have held the same residence for more than seven consecutive years.

The Lands Department has so far transferred 150 properties under the scheme.

The subsidy ranges from 50% of the market price for those who rented the premises for between seven and 10 years, to 65% for those who have been living in the premises for over 20 years.
