Not for food sounds like an odd name for a kitchen concept but the execution by designer Enzo Eusebi of Nothing Studio in conjunction with the Berloni Design Department was completely eye-catching.

Berloni wanted a concept that would embody the evolution of its brand since 1959; from being the market leader in kitchens, to a company that can give consumers a complete range of furniture for the entire home.

The concept uses carbon fibre, different other materials and contrasting colours - black and white - to take a fresh look at the ways a contemporary family can use a conventional kitchen.

Besides integrating all the functions expected in a modern kitchen, the Not for Food integrated furniture system gives 'users' a place to relax in a spacious, curvaceous armchair/ sofa, listen to music, work on the Internet and watch TV.

"Not for Food has a number of features that will certainly become available as standard equipment in any manufactured, modular kitchen in the next few decades," Chris Vassallo Cesareo, director of local Berloni representatives Domestica Ltd said.

"Having seen this concept 'in the flesh', I can only say how impressed I was with the execution. This is a bold step into the future that only a company with the track record of Berloni could ever devise."
