The pressure group Front Favur il-Mina yesterday cautioned against delaying studies on the proposed Malta–Gozo tunnel.

Composed of a number of university students, the front is lobbying in favour of better accessibility to Gozo. Representatives yesterday met Transport Minister Joe Mizzi and Transport Malta chairman James Piscopo to explain the group’s vision for improved accessibility .

The front said Mr Mizzi reiterated the government’s position that all studies would be conducted, and Mr Piscopo said the transport watchdog was working with a foreign company on the necessary groundwork.

He added that the preparations were expected to be ready by the end of this year, which would [pave the way for geological studies.

The group also expressed its concern on the latest changes to the X1 bus route, including the removal of a stop at Mater Dei Hospital, saying the minister agreed it should be re-installed.
