A group of 63 Maltese students accompanied by their teachers, and Dr Gordon Caruana Dingli, coordinator for the Starshine 4 Malta project, yesterday presented US Ambassador Anthony Gioia with 10 packets of polished mirrors for the Starshine 4 satellite project.

The schools participating in the project include Chiswick House School, Kappara; De La Salle College, Vittoriosa; Guardian Angel School, Hamrun; M. Mortimer Girls` Junior Lyceum, Sta Lucija; Ninu Cremona Lyceum, Victoria; San Andrea School; St Catherine`s School; St Martin`s College; and Stella Maris College, Gzira.

Another packet of mirrors was presented to the ambassador by Ms Lisa Caruana Dingli on behalf of her family.

The Starshine 4 satellite is presently under construction. Its 1,000 mirrors have been polished by 1,000 schools and other participating groups in 43 countries. The satellite is presently scheduled for launch on Space Shuttle Atlantis STS-113 mission to the International Space Station on January 16, 2003. Once in orbit the satellite will be visible from Earth.
