Form 5 students at Lorenzo Gafà Boys' Secondary School at Fortini, Vittoriosa, a school forming part of Cottonera College, recently celebrated their final days at school by organising a fund-raising comedy and a three-day live-in camping experience.

The first activity was organised by a group of Form 5 students who decided to end their five years of secondary education by giving back something to the school, which had played such an important part in their life. The group, under the direction of student Jonathan Bonello, together with a number of staff members, produced Sindibelle, a comic reworking of the Cinderella fairy tale.

The production was presented to the school students, as well as to students from other secondary schools and the general public, and was aimed at raising funds for the school.

The general comments following the production were of praise for the students' sense of initiative as well as the excellent working relationship between staff and students to produce this entertainment in a relatively short time.

The second activity involved another group of students participating in a live-in camping experience organised by school staff. The aim was to create a three-day fun experience coupled with important learning activities for the participating students.

Once again, the excellent teamwork shown by staff members together with students created a very positive experience. During these three days students camped, trekked, built a sea raft and sailed on it, cooked, participated in a variety of fun games and worked as teams during other activities.

Students commented that these two activities were a fitting conclusion to their years at the school, which were characterised by the school staff members' strong commitment to create a caring and stimulating environment that caters for the needs of all students.

Later this month, the Form 5 students' graduation ceremony they spent will be a fitting celebration of these five important years at the school.
