A new distribution centre will be built at Mrieħel to continue consolidating the electricity distribution network supplying customers in Birkirkara, Santa Venera, Mrieħel and nearby localities, Enemalta said yesterday.

It is the fifth new distribution centre that Enemalta will be commissioning by the end of next year. The new installations, a three-year multi-million investment to improve network resilience, will secure the necessary additional capacity to meet the country’s rising electricity demand and introduce new technologies to increase the efficiency of the national electricity distribution infrastructure.

The project aims to improve quality of service by reducing electricity supply disruptions and providing a quicker response to natural faults, accidental or storm damage and other network disturbances.

The existing Santa Venera Distribution Centre, which distributes electricity to the Mrieħel, Santa Venera and Qormi areas, is also being upgraded with new equipment as part of the Network Reinforcement Project.
