A private weather station has warned of a strong wind and rough seas tonight.

Maltaweathersite.com said the contrast between an intense low pressure system over Tunisia and an area of high pressure over Egypt will create very strong winds over the central Mediterranean.

For the Maltese Islands, this means SSE Force 7 occasionally Gale Force 8 winds from 9pm till 4am tomorrow with significant wave heights from a south-easterly direction. There is also a risk of isolated severe and damaging winds gusts overnight.

The most affected areas will be  Delimara, Marsaxlokk, Birzebbuga, Wied iz-Zurrieq, Ghar Lapsi, Xlendi Bay and Mgarr ix-Xini.

The weather will be fine today with an increasing amount of fine Sahara desert sand carried by the strong winds. Temperatures will go up to around 20C during the day and will then vary from 16C to 18C overnight.
