St George's 2
Mellieha 2

\n

This was an entertaining match with St George's producing the better fare in the opening half and Mellieha coming back strongly after the break.

This drawn result ensured that Gzira United stayed top of Division Two, one point ahead of St George's and St Andrews.

St George's were the more enterprising side in the first half and deservedly took the lead on 23 minutes when Edgar Degabriele headed home a Stivala cross.

The Saints doubled their tally on 35 minutes, Keith Darmanin finishing off a good move between Camilleri and Stivala.

Mellieha's reply produced a shot by Wayne Borg St John which was cleared off the line by Camilleri.

The northerners took the initiative on resumption and on 58 minutes they were unlucky when Borg St John's shot hit the bar. However, the same player was not denied three minutes later when heading home from a Galea cross.

Buoyed by this Borg St John's strike, Mellieha surged forward in search of an equaliser and their efforts were rewarded on 75 minutes when Kevin Gambin made it two-all with a firm drive.

Seven minutes from time Mellieha were reduced to ten players when Keith Spiteri was sent off for a second caution. Despite this setback they could have hit an injury-time winner but Gatt was alert to hold off Galea's effort.

Zejtun Corinthians 3
St Andrews 5

St Andrews were made to fight hard before having the better of bottom side Zejtun in this high-scoring match.

The Saints are now sharing the runners-up spot. They broke the deadlock after just three minutes through Claude Scerri but on 15 minutes Mario Farrugia levelled matters for Zejtun.

On 24 minutes, James Galea profited from an indecision in the St Andrews box to put Zejtun 2-1 up.

However, the Saints took only one minute to get back in contention, Michael Mangion heading in a Calleja corner and on 34 minutes Robert Guzman poked home Dale Spiteri's cross for them to nose ahead 3-2.

Zejtun should have restored parity early in the second half but Galea missed a sitter. They paid dearly for this miss as on 64 minutes Scerri made it 4-2.

Farrugia threw a lifeline for Zejtun on 72 minutes. But Mark Schembri put the result beyond the Corinthians' reach with a fifth goal for St Andrews in stoppage time.

Division Three

Sta Venera 0
Qormi 1

A Michael Borg Olivier first-half goal was enough for Qormi to score their second consecutive win and end Sta Venera's unbeaten record.

Qormi dominated the first period and after just four minutes they were awarded a penalty for a foul by Alfred Micallef on Mark Tabone. Aaron Buhagiar converted from the spot but the referee ordered a retake. This time Buhagiar's shot was ably saved by Rapinett.

Qormi were stunned but soon started pressing forward again only to be denied by an in-form Rapinett who saved on Kenneth Zammit and Borg Olivier.

Rapinett was beaten on 34 minutes though when Borg Olivier scored after being put through by Zammit.

Eight minutes after the restart Sta Venera were close when Joe Chetcuti's effort hit the upright. Minutes later Qormi 'keeper Camilleri was at his best to save on Stephen Said.

Qormi should have sealed the issue a minute from time but Massimo Borg failed to hit the target from an ideal scoring position.

Siggiewi 0
Pembroke Athleta 2

Two goals from Carlo Leonardi saw Pembroke Athleta notching their second win of the season at the expense of Siggiewi who were erratic in their conclusions at goal.

Leonardi opened his account after just nine minutes when he was first on a rebound after Siggiewi 'keeper Vella had failed to hold Joe Gauci's flick from a corner-kick.

Siggiewi gradually came more into the picture and Pierre Spiteri and Josef Micallef were close to cancel Pembroke's lead.

However, Pembroke made sure of the points six minutes after the re-start with a fine Leonardi lob. It was almost 3-0 on 63 minutes but Simon Buhagiar's effort hit the post.

Three minutes from time Pembroke's Andre Cachia and Josef Micallef were sent off after an argument.

Referee: George Bitri.

Gharghur 1
Melita 2

Two second-half goals scored by Steve Magri and Adriano Fenech saw Melita turning defeat into victory and hand Gharghur their first upset of the season. The Amateurs are now second, two points behind leaders Birzebbuga.

Gharghur assumed the initiative in the first half and took the lead on 22 minutes when veteran Nigel Zerafa pounced on a loose ball inside the Melita box.

Melita looked a different lot after the break and soon restored parity. Two minutes into the second half Magri's fine volley hit the Gharghur net. In the 61st minute a crosshot by Antoine Briffa was saved by Aquilina with the aid of the upright.

Melita continued to press forward and scored a winner five minutes from time thanks to Fenech.

The Amateurs finished the match with ten men when Matthew Borg was dismissed for a second booking.

Kirkop 1
Gudja 1

Gudja United opened their account in Division Three after winning their first point from three matches while holding mid-table Kirkop to a draw.

Gudja dictated the run of play early on and after 11 minutes a Leslie Burke chip forced Kirkop goalie Stephen Mizzi into a difficult save with Edward Mizzi clearing the danger in time.

But in the 38th minute Kirkop took the lead when Tonio Caruana hit home Alistair Camilleri's cross.

Gudja's reaction produced a shot by Chris Grech which was saved by Mizzi but in the 51st minute James Spiteri drew his side level. Minutes later a free-kick by Gilford just missed the target.

Four minutes from time Kirkop striker Alistair Camilleri wasted the easiest of chances when he shot high over the bar with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Referee: William Debattista.
