Birkirkara chalked up their fifth successive victory when they eased past a depleted Rabat Ajax side 4-2 at the Centenary Stadium.

The Stripes took little time to settle down and they took the lead after only 10 minutes. Terence Vella was brought down in the area by Rabat defender Ivan Carapic and from the resultant penalty the Birkirkara striker drilled the ball past Jonathan Azzopardi.

Birkirkara kept up their momentum and they were regaled a second goal on 34 minutes. Paul Fenech’s cross-shot was fumbled by Rabat goalkeeper Jonathan Azzopardi with the ball finishing into the back of the net.

That was a hammer blow to Rabat’s hopes of taking something from the match.

Birkirkara all but wrapped up the points with a third goal on 54 minutes. Edward Herrera showed great footwork to make headway on the right before picking up Vella who beat Azzopardi from close in.

Rabat did manage to pull a goal back on 72 minutes when Clifford Gauci hit a firm drive from outside the area with the ball coming off Birkirkara defender Alejandro Mendoza to finish past Justin Haber.

Paul Fenech grabbed his second of the match four minutes from time. Jonathan Azzopardi failed to hold onto Demba Toure’s shot and Fenech was on hand to tap the ball home.

Rabat reduced the gap again in time added on when from a Gauci corner kick Avila Perez headed the ball into the path of Aidan Azzopardi who beat Haber with a fine overhead kick.

Birkirkara striker Terence Vella was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
