Birkirkara - 2, Hamrun - 0

Birkirkara needed two second half goals to lower the colours of a battling Hamrun Spartans side 2-0 at the National Stadium.

It was far from a convincing performance from the Malta champions who were put under pressure from the Spartans in the opening half with Dylan Kokavessis spurning a number of open chances for the Reds.

However, the match changed after the break when Emiliano Lattes put Birkirkara ahead on 47 minutes when he was put through on goal by Shaun Bajada and cooly slotted the ball past Borg.

The Spartans tried to mount a fightback but it was Birkirkara who could have doubled their lead when they were awarded a penalty for a handball infringement by Massimo Grima. Lattes saw his shot from the spot saved by Omar Borg.

Birkirkara did manage to seal the points in time added on when in a quick break Michael Galea released Paul Fenech who beat Borg with a curling drive.

Emiliano Lattes was voted as the BOV Player of the Match.
