Street painting, live music and fire dancing will inject two of Valletta's streets with life and encourage people to rediscover the city's outdoor charm by night during the Strada festival.

Valletta lovers will be able to sip a glass of wine in the upper part of South and Strait streets while watching artists paint their surroundings to background acoustical music.

The fifth edition of Strada Wine, Food and Art Festival - which starts tomorrow and runs until Sunday from 7.30 p.m. - promises to live up to the success of previous editions and even offer more.

"The spirit behind the festival is one of togetherness and festivity and Strada has grown to become a place where good old friends get to meet," said Edward Schembri, who is organising the event with Kris Fenech Soler.

"We found the right formula and are sticking with it for the time being. However, we have added certain things such as a live sculpting session every day by Martin Bezzina Wettinger and we are also pushing the involvement of more artists to paint live each and every day.

"We are also bringing different acts to the event running concurrently with the live bands. These add-ons are mainly live theatre acts as well as our fire dancers," Mr Schembri said.

As in previous editions, access to Strada will be free and the stage will be the centre of attraction for a couple of hours each night. Singer Kristina Casolani and percussionist Renzo Spiteri will be playing tomorrow. On Saturday the Ben and Phil duo will be performing a combination of vocals, guitar and cello while Pete and Papps will be performing on Sunday night.

"We are only a few of the people who are truly in love with Valletta and, as we have stated from the very first Strada, we want this festival to act as an example for others to do the same and expand this all around the city to bring it to life at night," Mr Schembri said.

He thanked Valletta mayor Alexiei Dingli and the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts for their support in organising the event as well as Marsovin, Bank of Valletta and Medcomms Ltd.
