A #StopHate campaign was launched today to create nationwide awareness against cyber bullying.

The campaign, by Malta Information Technology Agency, 89.7 Bay and General Soft Drinks Co Ltd is also supported by, among others, Times of Malta.

Competitiveness Parliamentary Secretary for José Herrera said six out of every 10 youngsters were, in one way or another, subject to some form of cyber bullying.

“Cyber bullying takes bullying to a whole new level because of its constant, pervasive and public less nature.  Through the #StopHate campaign we are giving these youngsters the necessary tools to stand up and challenge this reality.”

The government, he said, would also be launching a charter of digital rights and obligations of the digital citizen.

Social Solidarity Minister Michael Farrugia said such campaigns did not only help reduce the number of cases of cyber bullying but also had a positive effect on youths’ education and personal well-being.
