A hunters' lobby group has told ravers that it had no problem with them flocking to Buskett for a festival during birds' migration season.
In a statement, hunters' federation FKNK said that it was a firm believer in safeguarding minorities' rights, including those of party-goers to the two-day 'Glitch' music festival held on Wednesday and Thursday.
"Unlike other organisations, the FKNK believes that apart from white and black there are shades of grey," the lobby group said. "An isolated incident should not serve as a precedent to rush to appeal to ban this or that."
It said that everything indicated that the festival had not dissuaded raptors from spending the night in Buskett before continuing their southward migration in the morning.
On Wednesday, Birdlife Malta had said that it was "totally unacceptable" to allow a rave party in Buskett - a Natura 2000 site - during raptor migration season.
The decision to hold a party at Buskett was also criticised by hunters' group St Hubert's hunters, who called on authorities to deny permits for parties during sensitive migratory periods.
Birdlife's protests were criticised by Tenishia DJ Joven Grech, who on Facebook wrote that "everybody is fed up" with the organisation and its campaigning tactics.
"I'm all in favour of the environment, but people live on this island too," Mr Grech wrote. "Get a life!"
