The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce is holding two courses on stone and clay sculpture. The first course will be run by sculptor Charles Bonnici and will cover two levels - beginners and intermediate.

Students will be introduced to the tools required and sculpture techniques. They will produce a detailed work from rough stone and will also use drawing and full-size patterns.

The clay sculpture course will cover pinch pots, coil jars, slab work, relief with clay, drawing on clay, modelling a human bust, modelling a human figure, abstract sculpture in clay, and making a relief mould with clay and plaster.

An evening course on gilding will also be held every Monday, once a week.

The course is also split into two levels. The beginners' course will teach the basics of gilding, while the intermediate one will go into more detail.

Courses start in October.

Application forms, registrations and more details can be obtained from the society at Palazzo De La Salle, 219, Republic Street, Valletta, between Monday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., by calling 2124 4339 or 2124 4400, e-mailing info@artsmalta.org or by visiting www.artsmalta.org.
