Overseas started this MRFU League Cup game at great pace, forcing Stompers on the back foot, just on their 22-metre line.

Stompers gave away a penalty which was duly converted by scrumhalf Vince Stivala.

But, Stompers showed their skills with a quick ball from rucks and scrums to their runners out wide and quickly scored at the other end.

Overseas were rattled again with another two tries as Stompers circulated the ball and moved it through the hands to their wingers.

Despite playing against the wind, Stompers stopped Overseas from building any phases, several times stealing balls at the tackle and moving it away from the big Overseas forwards.

Overseas had some fine individual breaks but often they fizzled out due to a lack of support players to pass to.

The second half saw two players sent to the sin-bin, one from each side. Then, Mario Fountain was red-carded for an act of aggression against an Overseas player on his own line.

A fired-up Overseas team took the game to the Stompers with some barging runs from the sturdy Clayton Cassar and flanker Joe Wilson. The latter managed to read the game well, anticipating most of the opponents' moves.

Stivala was switched from scrum-half to stand-off half and began to direct play from there, scoring a try himself. Piers Allen also scored, planting a reward for his persistent chase of the loose ball.

But Overseas ran out of time, with the game finishing 25-24 to Stompers.
