A stolen car was found dumped at sea by volunteer divers cleaning up the seabed at Miġra l-Ferħa on Saturday, police said in a statement.

Divers found the Nissan during an underwater clean-up which also yielded 75 tyres, 15 bags of plastic and rubber waste and plenty of other mixed rubbish.

The vehicle was lifted out of the sea using the volunteer’s ship, and handed over to police.

Officers working with the police’s stolen vehicle squad soon worked out that the car had been reported stolen from St Paul’s Bay early in May.

Police are investigating further.
