In his letter Vincent Piccinino (Taking Stock, January 25) hit the proverbial nail on its head. I have to say that I agree with him completely when he talks about politicians hiding facts and plans from the public.

They did not tell us which prices will decrease, neither did they tell us what they plan on doing if the price of oil continues to increase drastically! They did not tell us what "half" of the surcharge will be removed, half of the 50 per cent it is today? Or half of the 67 per cent it was in 2006? How long will they sustain this rate?

They do not have the courage to tell us where they plan to build three new golf courses! They did not tell us what they intend doing about the hunting situation. On The Times I read that they plan on obeying all the EU rules and on another newspaper I read about secret meetings between the hunters and a high profile Labour member!

They do not tell us what would happen to a minister whose project costs exceed the budget. Did anyone resign because the Buġibba project took longer and cost more?

What they never fail to do is to encourage us to forget the past. The EU issue? That's past. The entry in the eurozone? That too. The increases in the utility bills and Lm24 door tax when the price of oil was $12 a barrel? Now that's long gone. The broken promises to university students, dockyard workers and self-employed in 1996-98? That's history.

The fall of a government due to internal strife and continuous resignations? Water under the bridge. The partnership/ Switzerland in the Med. fiasco and the "partnership rebaħ" campaign? Don't even go there Mr Citizen or you'll be labelled as out of touch with the people and a blue eyed fat cat.

Mr Piccinino, you cannot fool everyone all the time; fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me!
