The Malta Stock Exchange share index today continued to reverse this year’s gains as it closed this morning’s trading session at 3,477.286 points – just 17 points above its value at the beginning of this year.

During today’s session on the Borza, HSBC Bank Malta plc touched a new 2010 low of €2.95 before marginally recovering to close at €2.98. This represents a 0.7% decline from the previous close. 18,200 HSBC shares traded today with offers already placed below the last trading price at the €2.975 level.

Meanwhile, Bank of Valletta plc held well, touching an intra-day high of €3.30 before easing back to €3.28 – unchanged from the previous close. Almost 19,000 shares changed hands today.

Middlesea Insurance plc edged 0.6% to regain the €0.86 level. A single trade of 8,600 shares transacted today with further bids remaining unsatisfied at the closing price.

On the bond market, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc and Eden Finance plc this morning both announced that their respective bond offerings closed due to oversubscription. The allocation policy with respect to these issues will be announced in the coming days.
