The public has been cautioned against using cosmetic contact lenses being sold for Halloween, which are available in local stores and online.

Using these cosmetic contact lenses may put one at risk of developing painful eye injuries, serious eye infections and in worst cases, a risk of partial or permanent loss of vision, the Superintendent of Public Health has warned.

"Inexperienced persons using contact lenses for the first time are at risk of scratching the cornea, and exposing the eye to serious infections. Symptoms of eye infections may include redness, itching, swelling, discharge, pain, or problems with vision," the superintendence said.

It is strongly advised that these products are not used, especially by children.

Medical advice should be sought immediately if one develops signs of an eye infection.
