Tigné Point - a modern, large, recently inaugurated area at Sliema including a large public shopping complex.

However, along the Tigné Point walkway near the new restaurant overlooking Marsamxett Harbour, a steep pathway well in excess of the gradient of a ramp that can be accessed by a wheelchair will be encountered. Unless passersby are willing to give a good push, one would have to return to the main road as this access route is not adequate. This lacks dignity, and in my opinion is not acceptable.

It is high time all constructed/reconstructed public areas are checked and certified by the relevant authorities, possibly including the National Commission Persons with Disability, for compliance with the specifications of the Access for All (Design Guidelines). If not complied with, owners ought to be directed to make the necessary alterations within stipulated times and there should be adequate daily penalties. Such certification should be carried out by competent professionals.

In my opinion, developers are still in time to improve this route for accessibility for all.
