With the mercury expected to reach 35 degrees today, health authorities have urged people to drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and to stay out of the sun until 4pm.

Meteorologists say temperatures may feel as high as 38 or 39 today and tomorrow before falling by a couple of degrees from Wednesday.

With the UV index hitting 10 today and 9 tomorrow, the chances of sunburn are also extremely high.

Health authorities have now issued a statement warning people of the risks of dehydration and reminding people that children, the elderly and those suffering a chronic condition are especially susceptible.
