Vittoriosa Stars created another major upset when they knocked Premier League side Gżira United 3-2 at the Centenary Stadium.

Gżira saw much of the ball in the first half.

The clock marked 22 minutes when Brazilian defender Tony connected to Riccardo Correa’s free-kick but his header was saved by James Mercieca.

The Vittoriosa goalkeeper was again alert on 33 minutes to keep out Jallow’s back-heel shot.

The Maroons took the lead on 40 minutes. Corbalan forced his way into the area and sent a low cross towards Jallow who stabbed the ball home.

But Vittoriosa soon came to life and on 43 minutes Arber Dhrami picked his brother Fabio Dhrami who slipped the ball past Jamie Azzopardi.

The Stars were not finished yet and in stoppage time Gianluca Sultana’s dipping cross found Ryan Previ at the far post and fire the ball into the net.

Gżira stormed into action on the restart and Jallow was unlucky to see his shot coming off the upright after a minute play.

But it was Vittoriosa who added a third on 63 minutes.

Arber Dhrami latched on a defensive clearance and he dribbled past two defenders before slotting the ball past the onrushing Azzopardi.

Rafael Ledesma pulled a goal back in stoppage time when he beat Mercieca directly from a free-kick.

Vittoriosa ended the match with ten men when Dion Fava was dismissed after he clashed with Ledesma.
