A man is to be taken to court tomorrow to face charges of animal cruelty caused to Star, the dog whose ordeal shocked the nation.

The man, 44 from Birzebbuga, was arrested this afternoon. He is the owner of the field were the dog was found.

Star was last month found bound, shot and buried alive near Ghar Hasan. The mixed-breed bitch died three weeks later, just a day after several hundred people held a demonstration against animal cruelty.   

The police said investigations had intensified in the past few days and given satisfactory results. 

Meanwhile, the Star Reward Fund has launched a promotional video.

The one-minute production features some of Malta's best known personalities including Moira Delia, Alison Bezzina, Ira Losco, Clare Aguis, Frida Cauchi, John Bundy, Gianni , Norman Hamilton, Ivan Grech , Daniel from Zoo and Hermann Bonaci. Roberto Calleia appears for the Star Reward Fund.
