Santa Venera Council has been ordered to pay €182 to the owner of a car that was damaged as it was driven over an unmarked sleeping policeman in the locality.

Notary Patrick Critien told the Small Claims Tribunal that his son, Sean, was driving his Volkswagen Golf in Sta Venera last September when he drove over a sleeping policeman in Braille Street.

The tribunal, presided over by Vincent Galea, heard that while Sean Critien was driving he head a loud noise and realised he had driven over a large, unmarked sleeping policeman.

The tribunal heard that the sleeping policeman had been authorised by the ADT and that it had been built according to legal specifications.

But it found that the council had failed to perform maintenance on the sleeping policeman and had not provided signage to show that it was on the road.
