A nurse who runs a ward at the St Vincent de Paul residence has been named the 2018 worker of the year.

Anthony Borg’s exemplary work was recognised by an independent three-person panel tasked with identifying the year’s best workers, employers and companies.

Mr Borg was one of the six winners who beat 30 other nominees to awards.
YMCA residence Dar Niki Cassar was named team of the year, while Dominique Desira was named manager of the year.

Joseph Galea won an award as employer of the year, with Erremme Business Advisors named the company with best family-friendly measures. Vodafone Malta was the sixth winner, with the company recognised for promoting equality in the workplace.

Lawyer Anna Mallia, engineer Helga Pizzuto and Prof. Anthony Serracino Inglott picked the winners.

Equality Minister Helena Dalli congratulated the winners and said they were just a sample of the many workers and employers which were implementing best practices and driving the economy forward.

She highlighted a number of government measures intended to improve workplace conditions and said they aimed to send a clear message that “investing in the workforce means investing in your own company”.
