St Paul's Bay Primary School, which forms part of Maria Regina College, recently organised a week of activities, aimed at promoting health and safety among the schoolchildren and encouraging more daily exercise.

The 850 children and staff at the school actively participated in the activities, which ranged from fun games organised by the physical education teachers with the help of parent volunteers, the serving of healthy food dishes prepared in class by the teachers and children themselves. Two very well-attended educational talks were held for parents about drug abuse and safety in the home.

In another activity, traffic police officers showed the children the basic traffic rules to follow when riding a bicycle on the road or crossing a street, a show was given by officers and two dogs from the Police dog section, and Civil Protection Department officers spoke about helping people in dangerous situations.

Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sports Clyde Puli inaugurated a new five-a-side artificial turf mini-pitch within the school yard. The pitch, on which five different sports can be held, was donated by the Malta Football Association (MFA) and partly funded by the collections raised by parents and children.

To conclude the week, walks were organised from the school to Wignacourt Tower and Buġibba square for the kindergarten and primary schoolchildren respectively.
