St Paul's Bay Council today revoked a decision it took on Monday to award a works supervisor contract to one of its own members.

The Labour-controlled council was ordered to revoke its decision by the Local Councils Department on instructions from Parliamentary Secretary Jose Herrera. He pointed out that in terms of the law, councillors could not bid for council contracts.

Labour Councillor Jason Camilleri, who had announced his intention to resign upon the decision to award him the contract, today made his resignation official even though the council decided to award the contract to the second bidder on its shortlist - Synthesis Management.

Mr Camilleri told a short council meeting that he was assuming responsibility for what had happened.
