The Missionary Society of St Paul's primary school in Rabat is being inaugurated this evening by Archbishop Paul Cremona.

The school as an extension of St Paul's Missionary College and forms part of the education reform that the government has introduced in the educational system in Malta and Gozo.

This reform saw the ending of the common entrance and junior lyceum examinations as the entry requirements in church and state schools, respectively. As from this scholastic year, students are being admitted in church schools through a ballot system.

The new school lies on the former DePiro Youth Centre, adjacent to the secondary school.

The latter had welcomed its first students in October 1964.

The primary school building was designed with the educational needs of all students in mind, and is equipped with the most modern educational tools, including interactive whiteboards in all classrooms.

The school comes with a gym, dining room, computer room, library and rooms for special needs

Construction works started last year and were completed in record time. The school welcomed its first 100 students in September 2011 under the direction of Fr Silvio Bezzina MSSP.
