Workers at the St John's Co-Cathedral Foundation have been directed to follow a series of industrial actions, as from today the Professional and Services Employees Union (PES) said yesterday.

The union added that the industrial action which it did not specify will remain effective until its claims are met.

St John's Co-Cathedral curator Cynthia De Giorgio, said yesterday that a meeting between the foundation and the union was to have been held last Wednesday but was cancelled because the shop steward was on vacation leave.

"The ball is in the union's court," Ms De Giorgio said.

The union is calling for a revision of the contract of work of head security custodians and of the museum officer. These employees have been working under new conditions and duties without being paid accordingly.

The union is also calling on the foundation to distribute the hours of work and duties to part-time custodians more equitably and according to their respective grades.

Another bone of contention deals with the complement and hours of work of custodians during weekends and public holidays.
