Lawrence Spiteri, the personal doctor of St Ġorġ Preca, died this morning aged 86 at the Charion Residence in Marsascala.

Dr Spiteri had recognised that Dun Gorg was a saint during his lifetime and had retained a phial of his blood collected during a medical examination.

He donated a small tube of the saint’s blood to St Cajetan Parish Church and another to the Society of Christian Doctrine which Dun Gorg founded.

His funeral will leave Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 2 p.m. Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m. at St Cajetan Parish Church. Interment will follow at the Santa Marija Addolorata.
