Vittoriosa Stars 2
Dingli Swallows 1

\n

This was a deserved victory for Vittoriosa Stars who turned defeat into victory as Dingli slipped into deep relegation trouble.

Vittoriosa are still not out of the promotion race. Against Dingli they went all-out looking for an early goal but were frustrated by their opponents' defensive play. A minute before the break, Aldrin Muscat collected a Callus cross before putting Dingli in front.

Vittoriosa were stunned but drew level in the 53rd minute through an excellent Robert Adami goal. Five minutes later Charles Cachia put the Stars 2-1 ahead, concluding some fine work from Silvan Privitelli.

Dingli failed to make a reaction as Vittoriosa maintained the upperhand to preserve their lead till the final whistle.

St George's 3
Zebbug Rangers 1

St George's outplayed their opponents for long stretches. Zebbug took an early lead but the Saints were in a class of their own to make the three points theirs and the top placing in the standings as well.

The Rangers grabbed the opener after 24 minutes from a Mark Ciantar goal. Ciantar almost scored again for Zebbug but soon the Saints assumed the initiative. Two goals just before the break saw them going in for half-time 2-1 ahead. Glen Bonello equalised in the 37th minute and Nazzareno Abela doubled the tally five minutes later.

St George's dictated the run of play in the second half and created other scoring chances. However, they had to wait until the fourth minute of added time to make sure of the points with another Bonello goal following a good move by Abela.

Attard 1
Gozo FC 1

This clash between two teams challenging for promotion finished all-square, a result which favoured the other teams in the promotion race, particularly St George's, now the sole leaders in the standings.

Jason Borg put Attard ahead after just five minutes following an indecision by Gozo defender Alex Tramboo. Gozo had a good chance to draw level soon after but John Camilleri, all alone in front of goal, incredibly missed the target.

Goalkeeper Tyron Spiteri twice denied John Camilleri with fine saves as Attard opted for swift counter-breaks. Tramboo was under pressure and almost committed an own-goal. But, in the 57th minute the Gozitans were unlucky when Chris Camilleri hit the post from a free-kick.

Spiteri was again alert to deny Chris Camilleri but 18 minutes from time the 'visitors' finally scored a merited equaliser. John Camilleri tapped home from a rebound after Spiteri had partially blocked a Mark Camilleri header.

Zejtun Corinthians 0
Zurrieq 4

This was Zejtun's 13th setback in the league. They now appear doomed for Division Three football next season as Zurrieq are still hopeful of avoiding the relegation play-offs.

Zurrieq opened the score from a Robert Bajada 13th-minute penalty. They made sure of the points with three goals in the last 13 minutes.

Substitute Philip Farrugia made it 2-0 (77th), Bajada scored again five minutes from time and Victor Fiteni sealed the issue with an excellent 90th-minute drive.

Division Three

Luqa St Andrews 4
Sta Lucija 3

Leading 3-1 with 30 minutes to go, Sta Lucija seemed heading towards their second victory of the season in this basement clash with Luqa. However, never say never in football as Luqa, with 10 players on the field of play, scored three times to move on 14 points in the standings.

Luqa hit first after seven minutes from Randolph Penza. But they had goalkeeper Alan Bonnici sent off for a foul in the 20th minute. From the ensuing penalty Melvin Agius blasted wide.

Kurt Grima scored an equaliser before the break as Sta Lucija added two other goals after the restart through Grima, again, and Roderick Mangion.

However, Luqa were not finished. Penza pulled one back in the 60th minute and Malcolm Psaila made it 3-3 soon after.

Sta Lucija tried to venture forward but it was Luqa who scored again, this time Mark Said making it 4-3 for a dramatic win for his team.

Melita 1
Qormi 1

A stoppage-time goal earned Melita a precious point in a difficult match against the more-experienced Qormi team. Melita preserved their unbeaten run and look firm candidates for promotion at the end of the season.

Qormi took the initiative and went close three times through efforts from Michael Borg Olivier, Mark Tabone and Aaron Buhagiar.

Gradually, Melita started coming more into the picture but on 28 minutes Carmel Formosa headed Qormi in front from a corner.

Melita were a different lot after the break, applying some pressure on their opponents' rearguard in their bid to score an equaliser.

Qormi, however, were unlucky when Borg Olivier's shot was stopped by the upright. But a minute into added time Melita found the opponents' net from a well-taken David Busuttil goal following a Magri pass.

Ta' Xbiex 0
Sirens 2

Goals from Johan Xuereb and Patrick Zammit were enough for Sirens to beat next-from-bottom Ta' Xbiex in a balanced match.

Sirens broke the deadlock after just three minutes through a gem of a goal scored by Xuereb after Ramon Farrugia had done all the spadework in the build-up.

On resumption, Ta' Xbiex assumed the initiative and twice went close through Jason Attard. However, in the 73rd minute, substitute Zammit was on the right spot to head home a Richard Agius cross to quell Ta' Xbiex's hopes.

Referee: Ian Miller.

Siggiewi 2
Kirkop United 3

A late Antoine Spiteri goal earned Kirkop three useful points as they are now sole leaders in the standings, one point ahead of Melita, who, however, have a game in hand. This was a difficult victory for Kirkop who were losing 2-1 late in the game.

Kirkop attacked for most of the first period but were rather ineffective in their conclusions. An Antoine Spiteri free-kick was a whisker away from the Siggiewi goal as keeper Roderick Vella did well to stop efforts from Micallef and Xuereb.

Kirkop attacked relentlessly after the break. In the 69th minute Alistair Camilleri put them ahead from a Mario Camilleri pass.

Siggiewi, however, were level three minutes later from a Pierre Spiteri free-kick and then Massimo Borg put them ahead as he surprised 'keeper Herman Mercieca.

Siggiewi were reduced to ten players in the 82nd minute when Eman Zammit was sent off. Kirkop surged forward in attack. Two minutes from time Geoffrey Grima made it 2-2 and six minutes into added time Antoine Spiteri scored a dramatic winner for the leaders.

Referee: Gejtu Degabriele.
