A group of 22 students from St Benedict's College Boys' Secondary School, Kirkop, recently visited the European Parliament (EP) in Strasbourg, France after winning the right to represent Malta in the European Union's Euroscola project last May.

In Strasbourg, the group joined students from the other 26 EU member states for a unique opportunity to occupy the seats normally reserved for MEPs in the EP building. There, the parliament's principles, rules and procedures were explained to the students, who later attended various workshops where they were able to share their views about the EU's present and future.

Motions proposed by the workshops were subsequently discussed in a plenary session and the students were asked to approve or reject the motions using the voting procedure used by MEPs.

The experience will enable the students to pass on an enriched understanding of the European Parliament to their counterparts at school.

The group also visited other important sites in this charming French city, ably guided by their History teacher Charmaine Elshout, and assistant head Ray Muscat.
