Colette Sultana has hit gold in Ireland winning the Irish Junior Open.

In the final of the Under 17 girls category, she managed to beat the top Irish girl Breanne Flynn to put her name on the coveted Irish Junior Open trophy.

Flynn started well taking an early 4-1 lead in the first game but the Maltese junior champion managed to keep her nerve to tie the game 10-10 and went on to win it 12-10. Sultana continued well, taking the second game easily 11-4. The Irish girl came back strongly to snatch the next game 11-9. She was threatening to take over the match and was again on top in the fourth game 6-4.

But Colette played brilliantly to turn the game in her favour to win 11-6 and claim the title.

To make it to the final the Maltese girl beat another Irish girl Orna Murray 11-2, 11-5, 11-3 and English girl Mary Lowe 11-2, 11-3, 11-2.

This was the third European ranking tournament for Sultana following Gold achieved in the Spanish Junior Open last year in Under 15’s and the Italian Junior Open the year before in Under 13 age group.

Colette Sultana is a member of the MOC Centre of Excellence and is receiving support through the MOC, Malta Squash and the Marsa Sports Club. She is sponsored by Wilson and coached by Paul Lake.
