The Ornis Committee has recommended a Spring hunting season for Quail between April 5 and 25, the FKNK hunters' federation announced on Tuesday.

It said it had requested a season between April 10 and 30.

The season last year was between March 25 and April 14. At the time, the season had been moved forward so as not to clash with the peak turtle dove migration, removing the possibility of accidental hunting.

There is currently a moratorium on the hunting of turtle dove because of declining numbers.

The Ornis committee groups the FKNK, BirdLife and government representatives. The date of the spring hunting season is ultimately decided by the government.
