(Adds comments by FACE CEO)

This year’s spring hunting season is from April 13 to 30, both days included, according to a legal notice published today.

The season comes with a national bag limit of 11,500 birds - 9,000 turtle doves and 2,500 quails.

A special licence will be issued to all eligible hunters who applied for it.

The Prime Minister last Monday annouced that an agreement on spring hunting had been reached with the European Commission.

When asked about this agreement, Angus Middleton, the CEO of FACE, (European Hunters' Federation) said this evening that this was a very positive development.

What this development meant was that hunting was possible in spring and what was wrong in previous years was the application of the derogation.

He also said that the national bag limits, which hunters in Malta were saying are unscientific, would have to be studied and discussed in greater depth.

He was speaking at the end of a two-day members' conference held in Malta.
