The Dance Workshop is producing its ninth annual dance production, Verve '08, a monumental feat involving months of planning to improve on previous years.
These dance-oriented performances have evolved not just from a dance point of view but also from a theatrical/technical aspect, through the use of lighting projections, which are unique to the island.
Francesca Abela Tranter has established herself not just as a leading choreographer but also as an inspirational lighting designer who uses light to sculpt the physique of dancers' moves.
The original projections by photographer John Grech complement both the dances and the light design. The costume design is innovative and is in the hands of the four costumiers Simona Mamo, Maria Pisani, Doris Mercieca and Ernest Camilleri.
The choreography is based on a specific theme established by studio principal Theresa Lungaro-Mifsud.
Verve '08 is an evening not to be missed by all theatre lovers, especially by dance enthusiasts. The programme, with both traditional and contemporary techniques, will appeal to the young and young at heart. The performance will be held at St Agatha's Auditorium, Rabat, tomorrow and on Wednesday. Tickets at €12 (Lm5.15) and €9 (Lm3.86) are available from the Dance Studio, Kappara and The Dance Workshop, Gżira (in the afternoons).
