Cricket: Karun Nair (picture) made an epic unbeaten triple century to power India to their highest ever innings total against a demoralised England in the fifth and final test yesterday. Nair became the second Indian batsman to score a test triple hundred and his 303 not out helped the hosts post a massive 759 for seven before skipper Virat Kohli declared. After conceding a 282-run first-innings lead, England finished on 12 for no loss, needing to bat out the final day to save the match and prevent a 4-0 series loss.

Winter Sports: German resort Konigssee will host the 2017 bobsleigh and skeleton World Championships after Sochi was stripped of the event following doping claims. The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation announced the move after Russian city Sochi lost the right to stage the competition last week. The federation had come under increasing pressure to take the event away from the 2014 Winter Olympics host city after this month’s second McLaren report, which implicated over 1,000 Russian athletes in a state-sponsored doping programme including many Winter Olympians.

Basketball, NBA: LaMarcus Aldridge scored 22 points in 26 minutes of play and Manu Ginobili added a season-high 17 points off the bench as the San Antonio Spurs manhandled the New Orleans Pelicans 113-100 on Sunday at the AT&T Center, winning their fourth straight game. Kawhi Leonard added 13 points for San Antonio (22-5) while Tony Parker and Jonathan Simmons had 12 points and Patty Mills scored 11 points for the Spurs, who have won 8 of 19. Pau Gasol pulled down a season-high 14 rebounds in 24 minutes of play.

Equestrian: London 2012 Olympic gold medallists Scott Brash and Ben Maher lit up the London International Horse Show at Olympia on Sunday after they waged a thrilling head-to-head battle in the Longines FEI World Cup class. And it was former world number one Brash, riding Hello M’lady, who came up trumps, thwarting Maher and Diva II by just 12 hundredths of a second following a brilliant jump-off performance that gave Britain its first Olympia World Cup winner since Maher five years ago.

Darts: Sixteen-time world champion Phil Taylor progressed into the second round of the PDC World Darts Championship with a 3-0 defeat of David Platt at Alexandra Palace. Averaging 101.93 and securing three maximum 180s against Oceanic Masters winner Platt, the 56-year-old will face compatriot Kevin Painter in the second round. Platt had earlier beaten John Bowles 2-0 to ensure he would be Taylor’s opponent.
