Athletics: World indoor 1,500m champion Abeba Aregawi (picture, right) has been suspended after she tested positive for a banned substance. The decision means the Ethiopian-born runner’s place in the Swedish team for Rio is now in doubt. National federation general secretary Stefan Olsson said: “We are totally opposed to all forms of cheating, doping and illicit substances. We have zero tolerance.” Two days ago Olsson stood by the athlete despite a storm over her Swedish citizenship and unpaid taxes.

Rugby Union: Italy prop Martin Castrogiovanni has been cited for allegedly stamping on Scotland’s Duncan Taylor during Saturday’s Six Nations meeting in Rome. A statement from Six Nations organisers confirmed the 34-year-old will attend a disciplinary hearing in London today.

Davis Cup: Canada’s Davis Cup hopes received a double blow when world number 13 Milos Raonic and top doubles player Daniel Nestor pulled out of this weekend’s first-round tie against France in Guadeloupe. Raonic withdrew from the World Group tie as he is still recovering from an adductor tear suffered at the Australian Open while Nestor, the number 12 ranked doubles player, ruled himself out due to a last-minute family matter. The players currently with the team include Philip Bester, Frank Dancevic, Vasek Pospisil and Adil Shamasdin.
