Athletics: Kenya’s top athletics official was provisionally suspended by the Ethics Board of the sport’s world governing body yesterday “in the interests of the integrity of the sport”. Athletics Kenya (AK) Chief Executive Isaac Mwangi has been accused by two athletes who failed drugs tests of seeking bribes to reduce their doping suspensions. Joy Sakari and Francisca Koki Manunga say Mwangi asked each of them for $24,000 to reduce the four-year bans. Mwangi, who has denied any wrongdoing, told Reuters he would “respect the decision of the IAAF ethics commission” while an investigation is carried out.

Basket, NBA: Former Cleveland Cavaliers centre Anderson Varejao has joined defending champion Golden State Warriors, according to media reports. The Warriors reached an agreement with Varejao after he cleared waivers and the 6-foot-10 centre will replace Jason Thompson, who was waived by Golden State to clear a roster spot. The 33-year-old Varejao was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers by the Cleveland Cavaliers last Thursday and then was released by Portland, making him eligible to sign with any team but the Cavaliers.

Tennis: American Sam Querrey won his first ATP World Tour title in four years when he defeated fellow countryman Rajeev Ram 6-4 7-6(6) at the Delray Beach Open. The 28-year-old Querrey had not won since Los Angeles in 2012 and had to overcome a break in both sets to claim his eighth career title. “We were both a little nervous today, it wasn’t the cleanest match,” Querrey said. “I just battled through and happened to hit one great shot in the second set, and it was on match point.”
