Motor racing: Formula One will be noisier next year after the sport’s governing body approved new measures to raise the decibels after complaints about the V6 turbo hybrid power units introduced in 2014. The International Automobile Federation (FIA) said in a statement that all cars would have a separate exhaust wastegate tailpipe next year “through which all and only wastegate exhaust gases must pass”. “This measure has been undertaken to increase the noise of the cars and will not have any significant effect on power or emissions,” it added.

Basketball: Decisions on whether a shot is a two or three-point attempt will be made by offcourt National Basketball Association referees, the league said among several modifications to the instant-replay process. Referees in the Replay Center will also issue rulings on end-of-quarter made field goals, out-of-bounds calls, goaltending and potential shot-clock violations, beginning with the 2015-16 season. However, all replay reviews will continue to be triggered by the three oncourt referees, the NBA said after modifications to the instant-replay process were approved by the league’s board of governors.

Tennis: Miami police have dropped charges of trespassing and resisting arrest against tennis player Bernard Tomic, Australian media reported yesterday. The 22-year-old was arrested and charged in July after police were called to his Miami hotel room where he was hosting a party. Tomic’s lawyer told Australian Associated Press that prosecutors had dropped the case over inconsistencies in reports lodged by hotel security and police.
